History and Reputation

The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and the Children's Hospital Temple Street have provided public hospital care to adult and child patients respectively for more than 150 years. Based adjacent to one another on the northside of Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland, the hospitals were established and run with the distinctive ethos of the Sisters of Mercy (Mater Hospital) and the Sisters of Charity (The Children's Hospital) as Catholic voluntary hospitals within the national health service of the Republic. Both hospitals are highly regarded teaching hospitals associated with the National University of Ireland and the Royal College of Surgeons and also provide national tertiary care in many branches of medicine.
