Dr Dermot O’Callaghan took up his post as Consultant Respiratory and General Physician at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in 2011. He is a graduate of University College Dublin and completed an MD thesis in lung cancer molecular biology at Trinity College Dublin. He was subsequently awarded a European Respiratory Society scholarship to complete a two-year fellowship at the Centre de Référence de l’Hypertension Pulmonaire Sévere in Paris, France.

At the Mater Hospital, Dr O’Callaghan is lead respiratory physician for lung cancer, current chair of the Lung Cancer Working Group and Director of Bronchoscopy services. Dr O’Callaghan has published more than 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and is an Associate Editor of the European Respiratory Journal and International Journal of Clinical Practice. His main clinical and research interests include lung cancer and interventional pulmonology, pulmonary vascular disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
