Biography

Mr. Murray qualified as a dentist in 1989, with an honors degree and continued post graduate training at the Dublin Dental Hospital followed by private practice during which he was awarded a fellowship in general dentistry (FDS) in 1992. He returned to Trinity college to complete his medical degree and continued to work part time in dental practice concentrating on oral surgery and orthodontics. He qualified in Medicine with honors in Surgery in 1996.

Following two years of surgical training he was awarded the Fellowship in surgery (FRCSI). He undertook further specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and in 2000 was successful in the Fellowship in Oral Surgery (FFD –Oral Surgery).

He began his training in Plastic Surgery in the Irish Higher Surgical Training Programme with two years in Cork followed by a further three years in Dublin. In September of 2005 he sat and was successful in both the Royal College of Surgeons and the European Board, final examinations in Plastic Surgery. (FRCS(Plast) & EBOPRAS Fellowship), following which he began the first of three subspecialist clinical fellowships in Toronto, Canada.

This commenced with a fellowship in Reconstructive Microsurgery, mainly head & neck reconstruction and post mastectomy breast reconstruction as well as surgery for facial reanimation. This was followed by a year and a half of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. The first six months in adult facial reconstruction where he developed a particular interest in the use of advanced technology for the management of congenital and acquired craniomaxillofacial deformity. His final year in Toronto was spent as Craniofacial Fellow at the world renowned Sick Kids Hospital, where he gained extensive expertise in all aspects of pediatric acquired and congenital deformities especially, craniosynostosis and orthognathic surgery.

In 2007, Mr. Murray finally returned to Europe and completed a 3 month fellowship in cosmetic surgery at the renowned McIndoe Surgical Centre in the UK, where he had the opportunity to work with 16 plastic surgeons and learn the most up to date techniques in cosmetic plastic surgery.

Mr. Murray has presented over fifty papers at national and international meetings and is widely published in peer reviewed journals. He is a guest reviewer with two major plastic surgery journals

He is currently the Lead Clinician at the National Paediatric Craniofacial Centre at the Children’s University Hospital Temple Street and a consultant plastic surgeon at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital.
