The HIPE Scheme is a computerised health information system designed to collect administrative, demographic and clinical data regarding dicharges and deaths from all acute general hospitals. Its main objetcive is to accurately reflect hospital activity. data is stored on the hospital computer system and copied monthly to the Economic and Social Research Institute Institute ERSI who are contracted by the Department of Health and Children to manage the data. Management and clinical staff are the main users at hospital level.
