Cardiac Rehabilitation
 

Description of Service:

The Mater Hospital has a comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme in operation since October 1993. It is an outpatient programme which takes place some weeks after discharge from hospital.

Services Provided:

  • This facility is available for people who have had a cardiac illness, either medical or surgical. (E.G. heart attack, angioplasty, coronary artery bypass grafts, heart valve surgery, heart transplant)

Functions of Department:

  • The aim is to help the individual to return to their best possible physical, mental, occupational and social potential. The programme also involves talks on risk factors, healthy eating, work and overwork, stress, relaxation and medications.

  • Patient information leaflets

Access to Service:

  • Patients under the care of the Cardiologists or Cardiac Surgeons from the Mater and other centres are referred to this service.
