Description of Service:

The Infectious Diseases (ID) Service is provided under the direction of Dr. G. Sheehan, Consultant in Infectious Diseases and General Medicine at the Mater Hospital.

The service provides both in-patient care and outpatient follow-up to patients suffering from all Infectious Diseases including Tropical Diseases as well as general medical ailments. The service also provides a diagnostic and treatment service to those suffering from sexually transmissible infections (STI’s) including HIV.

Pre and post HIV counselling is available as well as an on-going support counselling and a Social Work Service to help patients cope with their medical condition and/or related social problems.
