What we do
Physics involves the scientific study of matter and energy and their interactions. Many clinical activities are based on physical principles, e.g., diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy. Nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, surgical lasers and ultraviolet phototherapy all rely on an understanding of basic physics principles to produce a clinical benefit.
As physicists, we bring an understanding of physics principles and problem-solving skills to deliver thoughtful solutions to clinical problems, e.g., the improvement and optimisation of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Knowledge of physics principles underpins the operation of modern sophisticated digital imaging equipment. Using this knowledge, we aim to ensure that all diagnostic and therapeutic endeavours involving physical techniques are safe, are performed to the highest standards and are cost effective.
