Traumatic and major incidents occur and are conveyed to us from corners of the globe almost daily. Hospital services are usually central to such events.

The Mater Misericordiae Hospital has a detailed major disaster policy circulated to every ward and department in the hospital. It is widely acknowledged that those who provide the treatment also need support at such a time. With this in mind, a training programme was provided to equip a group of staff with skills in debriefing after a major incident. These skills can also be used to provide support to staff involved in more localised traumatic incidents.

• The Occupational Health Department have agreed to act as the Contact Centre and the Debriefing Team may be contacted through this Department at 8032813 – Monday to Friday 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
