Description
of Service:
The
Department of Ophthalmology in the Mater Hospital is a Major Eye
Centre in Ireland currently staffed by six Consultant Ophthalmic
surgeons and soon this number will be increased to seven. The Department
is able to manage patients with all types of eye conditions. In
addition the Department provides an emergency service for patients
referred from the Mater Accident and Emergency Department and the
Accident and Emergency Departments in the North Eastern Health Board
Region.
Mr.
Robert Acheson: Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreo-retinal
Surgeon. Sub-speciality Vitreo-retinal Surgery and Medical Retina.
Mr. Ian Flitcroft: Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with
sub-specailty Paediatric Ophthalmology. Also attached to Temple Street Children's Hospital
Mr. Timothy Fulcher: Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
with sub-specialty Oculo-Plastics. Also attached to Beaumont Hospital.
Ms. Patricia Logan: Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with sub-speciality Neuro-ophthalmology. Also attached to Beaumont Hospital.
Professor Colm O'Brien: Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with sub-speciality Glaucoma. Also attached to James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown.
Mr.
Michael O'Keefe: Consultant Ophthalmic surgeon. Sub-speciality Paediatric Ophthalmology, Refractive Surgery. Also attached
to Temple Street Children's Hospital and The National Maternity
Hospital.
The Institute of Ophthalmology of the University College Dublin
is the Research Centre for the Eye Department at the Mater Hospital.
