Main Construction Works Will Commence At The Mater

Public Notice –  30th July 2009 8.30am

The Mater is delighted to announce that the main construction works on the Mater Campus Hospital Development (MCHD) will commence on-site in September 2009.

The MCHD project will go a long way to addressing the need for modern buildings and equipment for existing services at the Mater and will provide significant additional capacity to service growing patient needs.

New facilities to be provided by the development will include:

  • New Accident and Emergency Department;
  • New Outpatients Department;
  • 12 New Theatres and ICU / HDU Departments;
  • New Radiology Department;
  • 120 replacement beds (60%) of which will be single rooms;
  • Expansion Space with capacity for 70 single rooms;
  • New CSSD, catering and waste management departments;
  • New Energy centre; and
  • New 444 Space Basement Carpark on 2 levels.

To facilitate this significant development, on the 21st August 2009, the current public car park operated by the Mater Foundation will close to facilitate construction works.

Alternative public car parking will be available on Eccles Street during the construction period of approximately 2.5 years. However, the number of public car parking spaces available will be reduced by 37%.

MCHD Ltd has liaised with Dublin City Council Traffic Department and local community groups on traffic management issues, including construction traffic. A separate entrance for heavy vehicles and a comprehensive traffic management plan will be put in place to minimise disruption and aid traffic management issues.

It is important to note that the new build will include a 444-space basement carpark on 2 levels.

Patients, relatives and members of the public asked for their co-operation during the construction period.
