The Concept
When Antoine MacGabhann first proposed this CD as a fundraising project, I jumped at the idea. The concept centered on providing a platform for a group of talented young musicians in the Ashbourne area, many of whom were taught by Antoine. The proceeds from this recording will go to the Mater Colon Cancer Research Fund. On this CD the Ashbourne group are joined by a selection of more widely known musicians from throughout Ireland all of whom have generously contibuted to this unique musical project. The music ranges from lively house set-dancing, plaintiff singing, elequont solo's to tight ensemble playing including the reknowned trio of Liam O'Flynn, Sean Keane and Arty McGlynn. To Antione and everyone involved in the project, the Mater Hospital is deeply grateful. Enjoy the music!

    CANCER RESEARCH

To many people, cancer is a disturbing, provocotive and depressing word. Yet, recent advances in medical science have meant that many cancers have become curable. One of the most common cancers is indeed curable if detected in the early stages. However, colon cancer remains a major health problem in Ireland with almost 1000 women and men dying from the disease each year, many of whom are in their prime. Research projects are under way in the Mater Hospital together with other centres in ireland and abroad to develop methods of early detection. Funding for this research effort comes from public and private sources. This CD represents a novel, exciting and ground-breaking fundraising venture in the area of cancer research.
