Transplants

Patients who are admitted for a heart transplant will have been referred to a dietitian at the assessment stage and advised on the nutrition issues relevant to them.

Initially post transplant the nutrition issues are similar to other post surgery patients as previously described.

Pre-discharge transplant patients are advised regarding food safety issues, control of electrolytes and incorporating cardioprotective advice.
