A high dependency medical unit that cares for acutely ill medical patients with

• Hemodynamic instability requiring specialised drug infusions
• Respiratory problems requiring non invasive ventilation
• Intense physiological monitoring
• Stroke - post thrombolytic (clot-busting) therapy for monitoring

• No flowers
• No children under 12 years of age
• No mobile phones
• Only 2 visitors per patient at any one time
