Transport and Access Construction works on the Mater Campus Hospital Development (MCHD) have commenced. This project will go a long way to addressing the need for modern buildings, equipment for existing services and will provide significant additional capacity to service our growing patient needs. A National Paediatric Hospital is also planned for the Mater site. Both the Mater adult hospital and the National Paediatric Hospital will be served by the Mater Metro Stop. On site parking is significantly curtailed for the duration of development works. As the hospital is located in a busy city centre location where parking is at a premium, you are advised to use public transport or taxi where possible. Sustainable Travel Plan Construction work will necessitate a significant reduction in the parking capacity of the Mater Staff Car Park and the Mater Foundation Car Park Eccles Street. A Travel Plan is being implemented with the objective of developing a sustainable transport policy for staff and visitors. This will enable informed choices to be made on using alternatives to the private car to travel to work or to visit a patient. The Travelways Commuter Centre The Travelways Commuter Centre provides information, services and communications around all aspects of travelling to and from the hospital. Vipre ( Ireland ) Ltd manages the Travelways Commuter Centre on behalf of the hospital as part of the implementation of a workplace travel plan and to address transport issues in the context of the ongoing developments. The Commuter Centre forms part of an overall programme designed to improve access, reduce congestion and single-occupant car trips.
