Biography

Dr. Conor McCarthy, MD, FRCPI, FFSEM trained at University College Galway, Bristol Royal Infirmary and the University of Michigan Medical Centre, Ann Arbor, Michigan where he did his Rheumatology Fellowship. He is a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Mater Hospital since 1996. He spent 9 years as the Medical Director of the Irish Rugby Football Union (2004 – 2013) and served on the inaugural board of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and Chaired the organizing committee of the first 3 Scientific Conference. He teaches medical students of UCD and postgraduates in Sports and Exercise Medicine at UCD and Trinity College.

He has set up an out-patient based programme of exercise for patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis (MASTER programme). Research interests include Exercise in Medicine, Ankylosing spondylitis, Osteoarthritis.
