Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia at the Mater (appointed 2009).

Dr Colman O’Loughlin graduated from University College Dublin 1996. Postgraduate Anaesthesia and ICU training with the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland and Conjoint Board of Intensive Care Medicine of Ireland (now JFICMI). Post CCST Intensive Care Medicine training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia & New Zealand (FJFICM

Dr O’Loughlin spent five years working at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne Australia. There he became a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (Aus/NZ) by examination and worked both as a Consultant Intensivist and Consultant Anaesthetist. While there he gained extensive experience and expertise in Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Heart & Lung transplantation, echocardiography and ventricular assist devices (VAD). He now works an Intensivist at the Mater ICU and is heavily involved in advancing the Mater Adult ECLS service and the adult Heart & Lung Transplant Programme. He is the current (2022) President of the Intensive Care Society of Ireland, sits on the Board of the JFICMI and is the Irish representative to the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine Council.
