Biography
Mr Des Toomey is a consultant general & colorectal surgeon in the Ireland East Hospital Group and holds a dual appointment to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar and the Mater Hospital. Originally from Dublin, he now lives with his family in Mullingar and provides general surgical and specialist colorectal services to the population of Westmeath, Longford and surrounding areas.
Mr. Toomey graduated with Honours from RCSI in 2003 and completed specialist surgical training in Ireland before undertaking a fellowship in colorectal surgery at Castlehill Hospital, Hull, UK.
In 2014 he was awarded both the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland Gold Medal for 1st Place in the Intercollegiate Exit examination (FRCS) and the W.A.L. MacGowan Medal as the highest performing Irish FRCS candidate across all surgical subspecialities.
He is JAG accredited for colonoscopy and is the endoscopy training lead in Mullingar. His subspeciality interests include laparoscopic surgery, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure and proctology.
