Urology
Urology is the medical and surgical management of conditions of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, testes and genitalia.
We offer medical and surgical care for all urological conditions involving:
- Kidneys (stones, benign and malignant tumours, congenital anomalies)
- Ureters (stones, obstruction, tumours)
- Bladder (stones, urothelial cancer, overactive and underactive bladder, catheters, incontinence)
- Prostate (benign hyperplasia, cancer)
- Urethra (strictures, hypospadias)
- Testis (hydrocoeles, tumours, epididymal cysts)
The Mater Hospital's Urology Department hosts the national centre for urethral surgery, a national centre for prostate cancer surgery, a national centre for kidney cancers involving the inferior vena cava (IVC), and is a tertiary referral centre for minimally invasive renal surgery and pelvic oncology.
