

Psychiatry services overview
An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan is a type of imaging that uses very strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body.
There are four different psychiatry services linked to the Mater Hospital
- Department of adult psychiatry – this is general adult psychiatry service for existing Mater Hospital patients. The patients are referred directly to us by their Mater Hospital consultant.
- Addiction psychiatry – this is a service for patients with addiction to drugs or alcohol. It is for Mater Hospital patients who are referred to us by their hospital consultant.
- Community adult mental health – this is a general psychiatry service for adults between the ages of 18 and 64 years of age. It is a HSE service and patients are referred in by their GP.
- Psychiatry for older persons – this is a psychiatry service for persons 65 years of age and older. It is a HSE service and patients are referred in by their GP. Service is also provided to Mater Hospital patients.
