Emergency Department

Emergency Medicine is the medical speciality dedicated to the diagnosis or potential diagnosis and treatment of unforeseen illness or injury.  The Emergency Department is staffed by doctors and nurses who have specialised training in Emergency Medicine this team is supported by the multi-disciplinary team and allied health care professionals.

The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital is a major tertiary referral and teaching Hospital.  The Emergency Department provides a 24-hour emergency service, 365 days a year, and sees in the region of 50,000 patients annually.  Approximately 21 per cent of patients attending the Emergency Department are admitted to the main hospital.  Although we see and treat any acute illness or injury, we do not manage paediatrics.

Mater Smithfield Rapid Injury Clinic

Mater Smithfield Rapid Injury Clinic offers treatment to anyone aged 16 years and over with specific injuries / illnesses, without the need for a referral.
