Bereavement Support in the Medical Social Work Department
Bereavement is a normal part of the life cycle and, although it may be difficult at times, grieving the death of a loved one is a normal response to death that affects everyone during their life.
The Medical Social Work Dept., MMUH currently provides a limited bereavement service to Next Of Kin / families of patients who die in the hospital including practical and counselling supports, post-mortem and organ retention support; education and training to hospital / medical staff, and participates in the Hospice Friendly Hospitals (HfH) programme regarding improving end-of-life care.
We also host a bi-annual bereavement support evening in which the next-of-kin or family members of all deceased in the Mater Misericordiae Hospital are invited to attend.
