Cardiorespiratory Medicine

The cardiorespiratory team provide services across all wards and units in the hospital, including the Emergency Department and Critical Care units.

Following individualised assessment, treatment modalities such as chest clearance techniques, progressive exercise and controlled mobilisation are implemented in order to prevent and treat many of the complications associated with respiratory conditions and surgical procedures. There is also an out-patient respiratory service available to provide advice, education and instruction on physiotherapy treatments to manage respiratory conditions.

The cardiorespiratory service is provided over the seven weekdays, with an emergency referral protocol available over 24 hours for patients with an established or potential compromise of their respiratory function requiring urgent intervention.

We also provide an out-patient pulmonary rehabilitation service to patients referred by a consultant respiratory physician at the hospital. The classes involve supervised exercise sessions and education about self-management of respiratory conditions.
