Biography

Dr John McCabe MB BCh BAO MRCPI PhD is a consultant geriatrician at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. He has a special interest in stroke medicine. He has completed clinical stroke fellowship in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, UK. He has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by University College Dublin (UCD) during his time as a research fellow with the Stroke Clinical Trials Network Ireland (SCTNI). His principal research interests include vascular prevention after stroke, vascular inflammation in stroke, risk prediction using PET imaging of carotid artery disease, and stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation.

Dr McCabe is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI), the Irish Gerontological Society (IGS), the British and Irish Association of Stroke Physicians (BIASP), and the European Stroke Organisation (ESO). He was a special lecturer with UCD School of Medicine from 2018 to 2021. He is now an assistant professor in the UCD School of Medicine.
