What to expect at the clinic

When you come in to the clinic, your details will be registered at the reception desk. Once you are registered, you can take a seat in the waiting area. The healthcare provider will then come and bring you into the clinic room for assessment. Your health care provider will ask some personal questions about your sexual health, risks and general health in the consultation. These questions are only asked for the purposes of assessing your health and to guide the provider to take the appropriate tests for you.

STI testing involves a blood test, a swab and/or urine test. There may be an examination involved depending on the patient history provided.

Routine testing includes:

  • HIV
  • Hepatitis
  • Syphilis
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhoea

Test results usually take 2 weeks and you will be called with your results. Your healthcare provider will organise a follow-up appointment if treatment or review is needed, which is free of charge.
