Education and research

The institute is a unique, innovative facility with academic links to the original Neurological Institute in Montreal and New York. The clinical care we offer is closely connected to our education and research programme. We run monthly educational talks for patients with different neurological problems, given by a clinical nurse specialist and/or the relevant consultant.

We have a number of ongoing research projects, studying:

  • Different aspects of gait, such as the freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease
  • Patient reaction times
  • Skin sebum (oil) production in Parkinson’s disease
  • Familial Parkinson’s disease
  • Early diagnosis of frontotemperal dementia and drug discovery in neurodegenerative disease
