The Daffodil Centres are part of the Irish Cancer Society’s cancer support service. The centres are staffed by specialist nurses and trained volunteers who provide information and support to anyone affected by cancer.

It’s a free service and visitors can drop in at any time during opening hours – you don’t need an appointment or a referral.

Who uses Daffodil Centres?

Daffodil Centres are open to the public. If you have a question or concern about cancer, simply drop in to see us. Everyone is welcome – patients, their relatives and anyone with worries about cancer. We can also help if you want to learn more about how to reduce the risks of developing cancer. If you are a healthcare professional, then we can advise you about the information and support that is available to you and your patients or clients.

What happens when you visit a Daffodil Centre?

When you visit a Daffodil Centre, you will be able to ask questions and talk through your issues and concerns with a specialist cancer nurse and our specially trained volunteers. They will take the time to listen to you and provide you with information, advice and support that is tailored for you. All Daffodil Centre conversations are held in confidence.

What kind of information and support do we offer?

We understand that the support needs of those affected by cancer will vary from person to person. We offer a wide range of advice to make sure that we meet the needs of our visitors. This includes information on:

  • Cancer prevention and early detection
  • Various types of cancer, treatments and side effects
  • Local and national cancer support services and other appropriate sources of support
  • Finding the right practical help and advice, for example advice about what supports are available for carers and what social welfare payments you may be entitled to
  • Chemotherapy education
  • End-of-life services
  • Adjusting to life after cancer

You are welcome to browse the many booklets and leaflets we stock, or use our internet access point to browse cancer-related websites. A nurse or volunteer will be on hand to help you find what you are looking for.

You can also contact the Irish Cancer Society’s Cancer Nurseline on 1800 200700.
