Biography

Prof. Michaela Higgins is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital with specialty interest in breast and lung cancers.
She was appointed as a University College Dublin (UCD) Clinical Professor in 2015.
Prof. Higgins graduated from UCD Medical School and trained in Ireland before completing a 3 year fellowship in Medical Oncology in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA. She was then appointed as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Attending (Consultant) Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston (2010 – 2014). Prof. Higgins has led numerous national and international clinical trials for patients with cancer, has been awarded multiple competitive grants and has published widely in the field. She is heavily involved in education and training of young doctors. In 2019, Prof Higgins was appointed as Clinical Director of the Cancer Directorate at the Mater hospital.
